Super Thai

I don't know about you, but new food trucks seem to be popping up left, right and center in Vancouver.  I love it!!!  I was super excited when I checked the Vancouver Food App the other day and discovered Super Thai.  So excited, that my long-legged food truck venturing friend and I decided that we should try it for lunch that very day.  The conclusion?  Lovely, yummy, authentic (as far as I could tell, but I'm not a Thai expert), fresh (each dish is made fresh to order), solid portions and good prices.  Definitely one to try.  So, let the pictures tantalize your taste buds and then get your butts down there to satisfy them!

Things to note: (1) Cash only.  (2) Super Thai is located at Granville and Hastings.  (3) As the food is made fresh to order, there is a bit of a wait to order and then get your dish.  But the freshness makes up for it.  (4) At first my long-legged food trucking adventuring friend and I were at a loss as to where we could sit to eat our meal.  We decided we'd meander further North to the Vancouver Sun building.  Low and behold, there are benches and picnic tables overlooking the North Shore, port and railway tracks, just to the right of the Vancouver Sun building.  It was amazing!

Pad Thai: rice noodles, chicken, tofu, shrimp, egg, bean sprouts and peanuts on the side.  Yummy in my tummy!  ($8.00)

Thai Green Curry with Chicken: coconut milk, eggplant, green beans and basil.  Served with Jasmine Rice.  ($8.50)  Very nice.

A night in, that felt like a night out...

How many of you remember the good old days when you had to leave your house to go rent a movie?  If you're anything like me, you miss those nights.  It turned a night in, into something different from the ordinary.  You can always turn on your TV and change the channel, but going out to grab take-out and a movie was a little mini-adventure.

Well, I have good news.  I have discovered a little gem of a movie store that still rents videos!  They have new, they have old, they have DVDs, they have bluerays...it takes about two minutes to set up a free membership, and the movie costs $6 to rent...which I do believe is $0.99 cheaper than renting directly from your couch.  The name of this fabulous little store is Limelight Video (http://www.limelightvideo.ca/).

After having discovered this gem, a fun take-out and movie night was a must!  I'd been wanting to try Khai Thai for ages, so that made the food decision easy.  The food was delicious, the price reasonable, the service quick, and the folks that worked there were very genuine and kind.  I will definitely be eating more Khai Thai in the future...in fact I think incorporating it into my dinner at the beach routine this summer is a must!

Pad Thai.  You can't get Thai food and not get Pad Thai.  This Pad Thai was very yummy and tasted pretty darn authentic to me.  ($10.50)

Pad Eggplant: spicy stir fried chicken with eggplant, pepper, and basil leaves.  ($13.95)  This was really nice.  There was spice, but more for flavour than anything.  I was also very impressed with the amount of veggies...the eggplant was delicious!

Spring rolls: vegetables and glass noodles served with plum sauce.  ($6.95)  These were very interesting.  They were not what I was expecting from a spring roll, but they were really nice.  Imagine glass noodles in almost a curry sauce, wrapped in the wrapper and deep fried.  Not your typical spring roll, but yummy nonetheless.

Bob Likes Thai Food...the Best Thai I've Ever Had!

So, I'd been hearing good things about Bob Likes Thai Food.  How it was authentic home-style Thai food.  I was having a hard time believing it with a name like Bob Likes Thai Food, but it tickled my curiosity so I decided to go give it a shot the other day.  It was amazing!!  And when I say amazing, think of the best Thai food you've ever had, then imagine that the Thai food you're going to have is so good that you can't even compare your old favourite Thai food to it.  I also loved the restaurant itself.  It had a lot of pizazz, was bright and fun, but so comfy cozy at the same time.  And the service was spectacular.

Now...on to the food!

Fish Cakes with Cucumber Relish: Basa fish with red curry paste, green beans and lime leaf.  I wasn't sure what to expect from the cucumber relish but it rocked.  Really made the fish cakes pop.  ($11)

Pad Thai: a Thai classic of fried rice noodles with prawns, smoked tofu, peanuts, egg, bean sprouts and chives.  Hands down the best pad thai I've ever had.  I could have eaten the whole dish myself.  Okay, I'll be honest, I almost did! ($13)

Eggplant Pad Ka Pow: eggplant sauteed with basil, bell pepper, garlic and chili.  This eggplant was cooked brilliantly and had the most amazing flavours.  I would order this dish again in a heartbeat.  ($12)

My Hibiscus Juice.  The person I went for dinner with had grown up drinking Hibiscus juice and was very excited to see it on the menu, so I figured I had to give it a try.  It was amazing!  Imagine a cran-soda, but now cross the cranberry juice with blackberry and raspberry juice.  Such a powerful, fruity, but refreshing drink.  This is a must-try if you ask me.  ($3)

RimFoodBaht

Today I was lucky enough to share my lunch hour with two of the many lovely ladies I'm lucky enough to have in my life.  We met at the gym and have been enjoying beverages, email chains and food together ever since!

Today we opted for Thai at RimFoodBaht.  Our conclusion?  Very yummy!  I had the pad thai with chicken for $7.50 and it was really good.  Another one of the ladies I went with had the green chicken curry with eggplant.  It looked delicious to me and she said it was very good.

Reasonably priced, traditional yummy thai food.  Definitely no complaints here!  Make sure to get there before noon or there will be a line as all dishes look like they're cooked individually.  Also, cash only.
